IMPAQ is seeking an experienced Project / Business Analyst to provide administrative and project analyst support for the Project Management Office (PMO). This position is based out of our Columbia, MD office and the incumbent will support every stage of the project lifecycle for IMPAQ’s projects, and it works across the organization to enhance operations that affect IMPAQ’s project delivery capabilities. This position requires a well-organized, highly motivated candidate, with strong communication and data analysis skills, demonstrated experience supporting government projects, understanding and engaging in business process improvement, and reporting to Senior Staff. Typical responsibilities for this position include:
Project Guidance and Support:
Participate in monthly project reviews with Project Managers and Division Vice Presidents (VPs) to ascertain current status of project work, help identify areas of risk or concern, and aid the Project Manager in reviewing and managing project financials.
Coordinate with Project Managers to identify risks and issues on existing projects and work with Managing Directors, Division VPs, and Operations Units (Accounting, Pricing, Contracts, IT) to provide a solution.
Facilitate and support the kickoff for new projects, ensuring that projects are properly set up internally and that project teams have all necessary resources and guidance to implement the project.
Support the project closeout process to ensure that financial risk is mitigated, project success is carried through the closeout, and lessons learned are identified.
Participate in the development of tools and templates to guide Project Managers, enhance project work efficiency, and streamline critical processes and activities.
Assist in the generation of reports and tools to help the VPs and Managing Directors allocate labor utilization across projects and ensure that project staffing is aligned with budgets and billability expectations.
Coach and guide Project Managers in addressing day-to-day aspects of their projects and provide ad-hoc support wherever necessary.
When necessary, provide direct billable project management support to enhance the performance of key projects and underperforming projects.
Support administrative activities on projects by coordinating with internal business units to meet a range of contractual and internal requirements.
Assist with the preparation and presentation of monthly project health reporting and support efforts and initiatives to enhance reporting process.
Training and Education:
Assist with the development and delivery of content related to project management methodologies, systems, and Best Practices for Lunch and Learns, training sessions, and PM support materials.
Provide ad-hoc training on Deltek Budgeting and Planning, as a Project Financial Reporting system and as a reporting tool.
Write and publish Best Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, workflow diagrams, and process documentation.
Business Operations and Process Improvement / Reengineering:
Identify opportunities to conduct operations more effectively; assist in the development of processes and procedures to drive improvement. Conduct gap analysis at the project level, division level and organization level to understand where Best Practices should be deployed for improved operations.
Enhance the tools and methodologies for measuring and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Work closely with staff to adapt new processes and Best Practices to their work and to disseminate these processes throughout the organization.
Participate in working groups and committees that seek to develop new programs to meet the needs of a fast growing company.
BA/BS degree required; and
Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
Knowledge and Experience
5 - 7 years of work experience with at least 3 years of direct work as a project or business analyst ingovernment contracting;
Strong understanding of all types of contracts with demonstrated experience managing firm-fixed price, cost plus fixed fee, and time & materials contracts highly preferred;
Knowledge of PMBOK, CPM, and other project management methodologies and tools;
Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in PowerPoint and MS Project; and
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Excel.
